Quantum Workshop

This month, we had the pleasure of hosting a "Working with OEMs and Tier 1" workshop as part of our #SPARK_program.

Three outstanding speakers shared their insights on building successful business collaborations based on their personal experiences.
🚗 The workshop began with Peter Mertens, an automotive authority, who shared the OEM's perspective on the right (and wrong) way to work with OEM.
🚙 Later on, we had a session with Koby Simana, a Senior Investment Manager at CRADLE Hyundai Motor Group, who shared the innovation unit's point of view and some "inside tips" on the road to success.
🚘 Last but not least, we had the pleasure of hosting SPARK's alumni, Ido Tsalka from Tactile Mobility, who shared Tactile's journey to a business collaboration with OEM.

Quantum Internal Innovation

🌔 ״You've got to expect things are going to go wrong. And we always need to prepare ourselves for handling the unexpected״
Neil Armstrong

✨ As part of the Taavura Livant Holdings Ltd
internal innovation days, initiated by our chairman Shay Livnat, we were delighted to host Ido Anteby, former CEO of SpaceIL, who sprinkled us with stardust.

🚀Ido described the Be
resheet spacecraft's incredible and challenging journey and provided us with some management tips for big projects like this.

🚀 SpaceIL's Beresheet mission was the first attempt by a private company to land on the Moon and the first lunar mission by Israel. In April 2019, the mission achieved lunar orbit, but was lost during a landing attempt.

The Situation

As the world advances towards communication between the vehicle and other road users, especially in the future of autonomous transportation, the importance of clear communication between vehicles and their surroundings becomes increasingly vital. One of the key solution is  to enable the use of laser projection on the ground around the vehicle. The implementation of ground projection technology presents a set of challenges, including the ability to accurately project on uneven surfaces, preserve image quality at all angles, effectively mitigate thermal issues, and guarantee reliability in accordance with industry standards.

What we did

We tested Maradin’s technology on over then 60 scenarios with 3 different power outputs of 20, 35, and 50 lumens, in a variety of real-world conditions, including adverse weather, diverse road surfaces, and varying lighting scenarios.

The test included  installation of the lasers on 3 areas on the vehicle: rocker panel, headlight and side mirror

and a team of 15 people rating the results  between 0-5 of each scenario according to 3 parameters:

-Projecting brightness.

-Image distortion (Aspect Ratio)

-Image clearance

Results

Results conclusions :

1)Both response parameters (quality and intensity perception) are statistically the same

2) Higher laser power improves both image quality and intensity perception

3) Different surfaces (besides wet asphalt) had negligible effect on quality and intensity perception

4) Light conditions effect is as expected.  Less light, better results.

5) Weather simulation was noticeable only with rain. Increasing laser power will improve the performance on wet asphalt

6) Best performances observed on the door step use case.  Image size (thus brightness) has a major impact on perception

7) Image content has significant effect on quality and brightness perception.

Maradin

Maradin provides an advanced MEMS-based scanning solution that serves as the core component of many laser-based sensors and displays worldwide. The company is currently evaluating its scanners with tier-one automotive companies using HUD and LiDAR technology and its proof of concept with companies developing consumer displays (augmented and virtual reality) and other industrial equipment.

On-site Resource Processing for Space Exploration and Sustainable Iron Production on Earth

Helios produce iron from iron ore, requiring only thermal energy, and emitting only oxygen.

HELIOS does not require steelmakers to dramatically alter their existing processes. Instead, the module is directly integrated into Direct Reduction of Iron (DRI) furnaces, which reduces cost and facilitates faster adoption.
